The role I took here as a contractor was with the Internal/External Relations department. The main tasks were to develop, maintain and support the Office Intranet, and Corporate website portal, but there were many other tasks such as building websites for trade mark officials forum etc. This role gave me the opportunity to gain experience working for a European Institution, and also working overseas under contract for a long period of time.

NEC Technologies develop key elements of mobile Internet

mobile phone business.

Employed as a contractor my initial task was to develop,
maintain and manage the European Group Intranet. The group
consists of three European divisions, the UK, France and
Portugal. The contract was initially for 6 months but has been
extended 3 times with 6-month periods. I managed to persuade the
management to let me build a SQL Server database, that would sit
behind the web application and store data on employees, projects
expense codes, budgets etc. The role has been very rewarding for
me as I have been able to apply new technologies namely ‘Wiki’
to the intranet development. Using this Content Management Tool
users were able to update content easily. Any data would be
stored in the SQL Server data store.

intranet/extranet applications and database driven web site
applications for the company. One of my main tasks was building
an intranet for the government organisations in cornwall. The
application stored data on government projects and funding from
the European government. I wrote the application using ASP with
SQL Server backend. I also built an intranet for the arts
council in London.

NBV is a company, which deal in catered chalet holidays.

Based in France, my main task was to develop an e commerce site
for the company. The site was 65% complete when I took on the
contract, and my task was to turn it into a commercially usable
ecommerce site. Once it was developed I had to maintain it, and
build on certain facilities to the site, to make it more user
friendly. The site sold lift passes, ski equipment etc for ski
resorts all over the French alps, and my task was to provide a
site which would not only be user friendly, but be a commercial
tool for the company. The site was launched in December, and has
made 80K worth of sales in 3 months. The site was written in
ASP, with an MS Access backend.

STRALFORS May 2001 – Nov 2001
Stralfors is a company dealing in information data transfer.

One of my main tasks was to implement a Bar coding Scanner
System which would manage
the issuing of British Telecom stock from the warehouse. I had
to write an application for the
scanner which would grab data from a Bar Code then download it
into a text file. I then wrote a VB COM object, which, would
grab the data and throw it into SQL Server. The company were so
pleased with the system that I implemented a similar version in
another area of the company. My other tasks were to write a web
based project management system in ASP, with SQL Server backend,
which logged employee’s work to certain projects. I then used
Crystal Reports to reflect the budgeting of the projects. My
other task was to write a web based Human Resources Management
system which enabled the HR Director to have all documents and
schedules available on the Stralfors Intranet.

RedHotChilli is a digital solutions company specializing in
digital software.

One of my main tasks was to build an Intranet for the company
using ASP and COM with a SQL Server database. This ran the
internal workings of the company, from the storage of clients
and employee details, to the running of production, helpdesk,
new business leads, booking meeting rooms and creating new
projects etc. I also had to build client ecommerce sites on NT
Server using Active Server Pages, with a SQL Server 7 database,
which I have had to design as part of the software lifecycle
development. I was also designing and coding backoffice
applications in Visual Basic 6.
